Can You Relate to This Story?
My problems all started when I paid $1,200 to join a network marketing plan right after I got out of the military. I have to admit now, that it was an act of desperation. We had just had our second child and I had gotten downsized and discharged from the Army. Since I had no college at the time (or any other practical training for that matter), I took some of the money that my wife and I had squirreled away and decided to start my own business.
The company that I had signed up with was a very reputable one with many people earning solid incomes from the opportunity. It was a gamble, but at the time I thought “No Guts No Glory!” and bought into one of the most lucrative plans of the business.
Well, that was the start of my trials. Even though the company that I decided to be a part of was an excellent one, many of the people in my up-line left me dormant and on my own. At first they were very enthusiastic, but as time wore on, it became clear that they were lacking direction. That was not only becoming obvious for me, but also for my poor wife who kept asking me about the business and when I was going to start making money, since I spent so much of our hard earned savings getting involved with it.
Not only was I not making any money, but I was spending loads and loads of time trying to prospect people into my organization. My up-line’s marketing strategy was usually cold call techniques that required me to meet people and then try to call them later using subversive techniques to get the company’s plan in front of them. They also told me to do things like frequent places where there were loads of people, like grocery stores, and try to meet them while I was standing in line. Later, I would and look the prospects name up in the phonebook to call them.
Not only did my up-line tell me to cold call total strangers, but they had me call all of my friends and relatives. Now, my friends shunned me and in many cases didn't even want to talk to me anymore!
This strategy was clearly not working and it was very degrading to get rejection after rejection. Due to the time I spent trying to prospect, my family and I began to drift further apart as I tried to follow the plans set up by my up-line. I finally had to take on two jobs which broke my heart because I had to give up all of the dreams that the “opportunity” offered me when I joined the program.
Death Wish
It is a horrible thing to let down the ones that you love. My wife and kids were looking at me like I was a failure because despite the fact that I was working two jobs all of the dreams and hopes that I had promised them were vanishing right before our eyes. This all came to head one day when I couldn’t pay my son’s tuition to go to a summer camp.
As a matter of fact, I knew for sure that I had less than two months before I would be totally broke. Visions of my family living inside of a car plagued me every second of the day and it seemed to get worse with each passing second. I began to feel like I was choking and having abdominal cramps most of the time.
One night, my wife found me curled up in a ball crying uncontrollably in a corner of the house. She rushed me to the hospital thinking I was having a heart attack but it was just my nerves giving out. Now, I had a hospital bill to pay as well. I wanted to die.
Desperation is the mother of invention and this is how I turned my business around!
I checked out and read as many marketing, sales and leadership books I could get my hands on, taking notes, writing out strategies that I had not considered. I scanned, collected and read hundreds of articles from the Internet. Not only did I consider direct contact methods, advertising and direct mail but I also looked at online marketing as a method.
Radical Changes and Then My Business Took Off!
That’s where my business really took off and this was the direction I decided to focus on. Almost immediately I began to see results in my efforts so I gathered even more material and put it into a step by step system that was very, very effective.
Not only did I research a ton of material, but I interviewed people that were very successful in multilevel and network marketing and people like myself that had tried to build a business that a family could survive and thrive on.
In my extensive research I found that there were many other systems on the Internet to help multilevel marketers and network marketers, but there were three basic problems with them.
Problem #1
First of all, much of the information was old and outdated. A lot of the material had been written by people that were trying to make a quick buck and they quickly wrote information and just left it on the Internet to sell. They never considered going into any depth on key points of their strategies or offering updates on the material they had written.
Problem #2
Second, many of the MLM lead generation and network training systems on the Internet are subscription sites that are requiring you to pay anywhere from $30 to $50 a month. On the low end alone, that’s $360 a year!
